About the Role 

Argus Heating (AHL) are specialists in electric heating element design, in the manufacture of foil heaters used in variety of intermediate bulk containers and tubular heaters, that provide low-cost heating in towel rails,cupboards and community electrical appliances. 

In this role you will be the Lead Engineer responsible for leading the identification and timely execution of the complete Argus Heating product development process and project deliverables, including concept design, testing, characterisation, design finalisation, verification/validation activities, transfer, and launch support.  This role also involves working closely and collaboratively with the Argus Manutech engineering team to ensure seamless integration and alignment throughout the development process. 

Innovation is a key component of this role.  Working closely with the Product Manager, you need to ensure the products remain leaders in their respective markets and relevant for their individual clients.  There is also the need to understand how the products can be modified to be applied to a range of different sectors as opportunities are identified. 

 

Your Knowledge and Experience

You will have several of the following: 

  • Proactive, self-starter with a track record of achieving results in product design and innovation. 

  • Good people and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with the internal Product Managers and clients on design concepts and feasibility. 

  • Ability to influence and technically lead across the business to ensure ongoing success of the heating products. 

 

Technically you will have: 

  • BE or Trade qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with electrical experience, or Mechatronics.   

  • Mechanical - Knowledge of mechanical design principles.  

  • Electrical - Knowledge of electrical principles, electrical safety, and ability to interpret electrical schematics 

  • Strong competency with 3D CAD.  Solidworks is used at Argus.  

  • Knowledge of general thermodynamics, and specifically fluid thermodynamics. 

  • Experience in design and development of Electromechanical Products in a team environment. 

  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacture in a Lean environment, Design for Test and Design for Automation 

 

Nice to have’s include: 

  • Knowledge of electrical safety compliance standards, ideally EN/IEC 60335-1 and UL-499  

  • Experience working within quality systems, ISO9001 is used.  

  • Experience of Agile and waterfall project management methods. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of lean methods and tools. 

  • Six Sigma Green belt
