The core purpose of this role is better design - the development of optimal complete solar system designs.
These are typically grid connected photovoltaic power generation systems using battery energy storage systems producing between 200kW and 2MW, so well into the "commercial" category. These can also be in remote locations and/or with constraints on equipment choice, maintenance and access, so these are multifaceted puzzles to solve.
Digging deeper, we are looking for someone with real world experience in developing a detailed commercial scale PV solar design including all aspects of the PV and BESS, site configuration, choice of components, cable sizing etc. and, through investigating design options and the corresponding impact on cost, timescale, skills requirement an logitics, eventually come to the optimum practicable solution.
So, if you can imagine one one screen having a system design, another the proposed site configuration, and on a third a spreadsheet with the project parameters and corresponding costs/times, you would not be too far from the mark. There's going to be a few spreadsheets.
It's all about getting to the best solution.Requirements:
This is by no means an isolated role - you will be surrounded by a team of very competent and collaboratibe people including engineers, managers and specialists, all with the same aim, build a great company doing great work. Your role in the team is to double down on design optimisation.
What does this require?
In reality, any experience you have in the detailed design of commercial scale grid-tied solar systems with the associate energy storage systems, switchgear etc. would be valuable. The more exposure you have had in following these through to final construction /commissioning etc. wiill be very beneficial.
- Experience of commercial solar system design
- Qualified engineer (Electrical / Mechanical / Civil / Energy)
- Designed energy systems (solar/electrical) of a relevant scale (network-connected, BESS) .
- Good software skills (MS Words,Excel, AutoCAD etc)
- Able to travel internationally occasionally.
- Have permission to live and work in New Zealand.
It would be nice if you have:
- Proficiency with Solar design software (Homer, PVSyst etc.)
- 5+ years in system design in NZ, Australia or the Pacfic.
On the fence?: if you are able to work in New Zealand and feel you can tick many of the boxes above -you may have design solar systems but not tackled the BESS, you may have researched energy storage systems but noit sure of the cost parameters.
