Playing apivotal role in designing commercial solar power systems, typically 100kW - 1MW photovoltaic solutions, often grid-tied with battery energy storage systems and backup facilities. Locations in the New Zealand, around the Pacific Rime, Asia and further afield.
Your role would be to
a) take a design brief, produce a concept, select components and produce fully detailed designs ready to build.
b) manage the solar design - whilst you will be responsible to your own design, as the company expands, there will be a need to manage the design process with internal and external designers,
In this team you will be working with a bunch of very passionate and experienced engineers possessing skills right across the power and renewable sector (HV, Protection, Solar, Commissioning, sales etc.). You will definitely have someone there to support you and offer support to, in fact mentoring is a key element of the growth of this industry. New technologies, products, strategy, tools, regulations and environments ensure the you will always be learning and always be growing in this game.Skills and Experience:
Essentially, you need to have a good track record of designing on-grid solar systems. This is also a tight team so versatility and resourcefulness are valued.
- Degree, NZCE, NDE or experience equivalent with (5+ years)
- Strong software skills, ideally in AutoCAD, DigSilent etc..
- A portfolio of 200kW+ solar PV designs done by you.

No, there are others in the team.
- Does this role cover HV Design?
Not specifically, there are HV Design Engineers who handle this but you will need to understand the protocols and connection requirements on the LV side.
- Is there much travel?
There may be some international travel but this is likely to be minimal as there are teams for project delivery and commissioning.
- Do I need to have experience in on-grid systems?
This depends on the type of project you have experience with. If you apply with examples, we can advise.
- I have no experience in New Zealand, should I apply?
If you have good commercial solar design experience and excellent communications, we would love to hear from you.
- I have no solar experience, should I apply?
